“I CLOWN YOU” is a documentary FILM and an awareness campaign
that EXPLORE THE LIBERATING AND HEALING POWERS OF THE ART OF FOLLY
THROUGH THE STORIES OF CLOWNS who work IN hospitals in ISRAEL.

Medical who?..

In Israel “medical clowning” is an actual job. Red nose, huge shoes - the works, no white face though – think, “overdressed hipsters with red noses.” They don’t do shticks. Their work is a non-stop improvisation. Clowns roam the halls of hospitals and engage with whatever they encounter finding the right key for any situation. Hospital is a unique place in Israel. It’s a place of peace that brings people together. Everyone is equal, leveled by the fear and suffering. Medical clown’s ability to reach past the divides has an extra layer of meaning here.

The clown doesn’t see the social, psychological, and sometimes even physical walls. He reaches past them to the human essence.

WHY?

When medical clowns work with patients they focus on their healthy side. They don't ignore the sick side, but all the empowerment goes to the healthy side so that it can take over. Following their lead we are focusing on the healthy side of the world, the humanist side.

“I Clown You” is a story of generosity of spirit. A story about Israel that is very different from what we are used to seeing in the news.

We have amazing stories

A mother to six and a sister to nine, who goes through bone marrow transplantation accompanied by the clown who is there for her more than her family...

A young Palestinian man from Gaza who was treated for cancer in Israel when he was a child, has since then became a volunteer medical clown, and now is coming to Jerusalem for an internship....

A medical clown who is being fired from the hospital after the budget cuts but his patients in the cancer ward who go on war for him and force the hospital to keep him...

And many more...

We want to finish the film
by the SPRIng of 2019

The only obstacle that is holding us back is the funding

We've been working on "I Clown You" for 5 years, which is quite usual for docs. Actually, 8 years is an average production...
We ran a Kickstarter campaign two years ago. Over 300 people helped us get through the filming and since then more and more people have been chipping in helping us move forward. We are beyond grateful to everyone who has supported us!!!
We still need to raise $50,000 by April of 2018.
